She Belongs is a powerful documentary that follows 22 young women from different backgrounds and cultures as they come together through football and travel to the FIFA Women’s World Cup. Exploring the challenges young women face, including refugee and newcomer experiences, while showing how belonging, friendship and shared experiences can break down barriers of gender, race and socioeconomic status.

Screening She Belongs during Welcoming Week is especially meaningful because it invites us to reflect on what it truly means to feel that you belong. It celebrates the strength and potential that newcomers and young women bring to our communities, while reminding us that inclusion is something we all have a role in creating.

Through the universal language of sport, the film offers an inspiring message: everyone deserves a place where they are seen, valued and welcomed and everyone has something to contribute.

We hope this screening will bring people together, spark conversation, and celebrate the diverse communities that make our city stronger.
